Shaping Agency
The Effect of User Communication Styles on Autonomy and Decision Support in Intelligent Conversation Agent Interactions
This project examines how the way people communicate, whether formal, informal, directive, or collaborative, shapes their experiences with intelligent conversational agents such as ChatGPT, Siri, or Alexa. Through examining both everyday interactions and more complex decision-making scenarios, the study investigates how communication styles impact trust, autonomy, and perceived agency.
The goal is to support the design of adaptive and user-centred AI systems that can better respond to the diversity of human communication.
Current stage: Pilot data has been collected and is undergoing analysis
The pilot phase of this project is supported by Mount Royal University through the Internal Research Grant Fund 2024.
